Design & Build: Boombox Energy, Modern Execution

The W-KING X20 makes no secret about what it is: a modern-day boombox for people who want big sound without a big brand name. The design is practical and bold, with a barrel-like build, prominent side-firing passive radiators, and a thick central handle that makes lugging around its 7.5-pound bulk easier.

Rubber feet keep it stable on flat surfaces, while rubberized bumpers help it survive the occasional knock or scrape. The controls sit on top—volume, play/pause, EQ, TWS pairing, power—and each one is large and tactile, perfect for outdoor use. It even includes LED light rings on the passive radiators, which pulse to your music’s rhythm (or can be disabled entirely).

It’s not subtle—but it’s not trying to be.

Durability: IPX6 Rating with Real-World Resilience

With an IPX7 water resistance rating, the X20 is properly waterproof. We tested it by leaving it outside during a 10-minute downpour, and it shrugged off the water with zero issues.

The ports are tucked behind a thick rubber seal, which you’ll need to keep shut if you’re anywhere near water. While we wouldn’t toss it in a pool, it’s safe to say the X20 is well-prepared for pool decks, camping trips, tailgates, and dusty garage workspaces.

That said, don’t expect the kind of drop protection you’d get from a smaller rubber-clad model like the JBL Flip or the Soundcore Motion Boom. It’s sturdy but heavy.

Portability: Built to Be Moved, Not Pocketed

Let’s be clear: this is not a speaker you toss into your backpack and forget about. At over 7 pounds, the X20 is meant to be carried like a tool, not packed like an accessory.

Thankfully, the central handle is wide, grippy, and balanced, making one-handed carrying easy. If you’re used to carrying a small cooler, you’ll be fine with this. For car camping, beach parties, or home use, it’s a perfect form factor. But if you’re looking for something ultraportable for solo hiking trips, you’ll want to look elsewhere.

Controls: Large, Responsive, and Simple

The W-KING X20 features six tactile buttons on its top panel:

  • Power button
  • Bluetooth pairing button
  • Volume Down (–)
  • Volume Up (+)
  • Play/Pause button
  • BASS button

While these physical controls cover essential functions, the W-KING app expands the speaker’s capabilities, offering access to multiple EQ presets, custom EQ settings, TWS pairing, and source selection. This combination of onboard controls and app integration provides users with a comprehensive and customizable audio experience.

App Compatibility

The W-KING X20 is compatible with the W-KING app, available on both Android and iOS platforms. The app allows users to:

  • Access multiple EQ presets tailored for different music genres and environments.
  • Create and save custom EQ settings.
  • Control playback functions remotely.
  • Manage TWS (True Wireless Stereo) pairing for stereo sound with two X20 units.
  • Switch between different input sources seamlessly.

This app enhances the user experience by providing greater control over the speaker’s audio output and functionality.

Connectivity: Modern Bluetooth with Legacy Inputs

The W-KING X20 covers just about every connectivity option you’d expect—and then some. Behind the sealed rubber flap on the rear, you’ll find:

  • USB-C (labeled IN/OUT DC) – for charging the speaker and possibly charging out to devices
  • 3.5mm AUX input
  • Reset pinhole (RST)
  • 3.5mm Monitor port – appears to be a line-out for daisy-chaining to another speaker or monitoring
  • USB-C (labeled OTG) – likely for reading audio from a USB-C drive or mobile OTG device
  • USB-A – standard USB drive input (and/or charging other devices)
  • TF card slot
  • 1/4″ GUITAR input – a rare and valuable addition for musicians

You get Bluetooth 5.3 with strong range and quick pairing, but it also includes a USB-C charging port, an additional USB-C OTG port for external playback, a USB-A port for flash drives or charging your phone, a 3.5mm AUX input, a TF card slot, and even a 1/4″ guitar input for live play or busking. There’s also a 3.5mm “Monitor” line-out port, letting you connect to another speaker or amplifier.

It’s one of the most versatile port arrays we’ve seen on a speaker in this class, and a huge plus for musicians or anyone running mixed audio setups.

Sound Quality: Clean Power and Crowd-Pleasing Bass

This speaker’s calling card is its sound—loud, deep, and just refined enough to avoid falling into the “boomy mess” trap common in cheap party speakers.

The X20’s 200W output is driven by dual full-range drivers, reinforced by large passive radiators on each end. The soundstage is front-facing but broad. While it doesn’t achieve true stereo separation on its own, the sound is rich and expansive.

  • Balanced Mode: Good clarity across the board. Vocals are articulate, highs have sparkle, and the bass is present without overpowering.
  • Bass Mode: Everything below 120Hz gets a serious push. Hip-hop, EDM, and reggaeton shine, but this setting can overwhelm midrange on quieter tracks.
  • Vocal Mode: Pulls bass back and brings out clarity for podcasts, acoustic tracks, or talk-heavy content.

What’s impressive is how well the speaker manages to control distortion—even at higher volumes. You start to lose some finesse around 85% volume, but even then it doesn’t fall apart. You can use this at full blast outdoors without wincing.

Volume & Output: Backyard Approved

We measured the speaker’s peak output at around 92.8 dB at 1 meter, which is loud enough to command attention outdoors and easily fill a living room or garage space.

At medium volumes, it’s powerful without being obnoxious. Cranked up, it has enough weight to get a party going—and without the screechy highs or muddy mids that plague most budget boomboxes. It’s not a substitute for a full PA, but it’s a serious step up from anything under 60W.

Battery: All-Day Power, Plus Power Bank Function

The built-in 9,000mAh battery held up well in testing. We ran the X20 at about 50% volume with occasional LED use and got just under 23 hours before it shut off. That’s right in line with W-KING’s 24-hour claim.

Recharging via USB-C took about 3.5 hours using a standard 18W wall charger. There’s no fast-charging protocol, but the battery life more than makes up for it.

Bonus points: it charges your phone at the same time. If you’re out in the wild, this feature alone could be a game changer.

TWS Pairing: True Stereo, True Impact

The W-KING X20 supports true wireless stereo pairing. Linking two X20s is quick and painless. Once paired, they operate as left/right channels, delivering actual stereo separation and double the output.

If you regularly host backyard parties or beach days, two X20s can handle music duty for 20–30 people easily. It’s an awesome budget stereo system, and in our opinion, one of the best values in the large Bluetooth speaker category.

To pair two W-KING X20 speakers in True Wireless Stereo (TWS) mode:

  1. Turn on both speakers
  2. Press and hold the Bluetooth button on one speaker for a few seconds until you hear a prompt
  3. The two units will automatically link—one becomes the left channel, the other the right
  4. Then pair your phone to the master speaker as usual

Once connected, they act as a single stereo system. To exit TWS mode, just hold the Bluetooth button again to disconnect them.

Value & Alternatives

The W-KING X20 is a top contender. You get loud sound, long battery life, power bank functionality, and rugged construction—without the premium price tag.

If you’re looking for alternatives:

None of them beat the X20 for raw power-per-dollar value.

Final Verdict

The W-KING X20 is what happens when budget audio stops trying to be “cheap” and instead aims to be useful. It’s loud, durable, flexible, and surprisingly well-balanced for a speaker with this much output.

Whether you need a speaker for parties, outdoor gatherings, tailgates, or just want an all-in-one garage sound system that can survive some abuse, the X20 delivers. It’s not just a good speaker for the price—it’s a good speaker, period.
