Inputs

On the side of the speaker are the inputs. Micro USB for charging, ⅛ inch AUX and MicroSD are all located within a recessed waterproof compartment. There is a watertight cover which goes over the compartment to protect against water and debris.

With the latest version of Bluetooth, the Sensport Rave Model 1 will pair with any Bluetooth device on the market. Bluetooth on the Rave Model 1 is easy to set up and pairs within seconds. Bluetooth range is 33ft, which is more than enough for BBQs, pool parties or even out on a boat. You also have the option of connecting via ⅛ inch AUX cable or MicroSD card. At first, you may be thinking “what is the point of MicroSD”? Having a MicroSD input is actually essential if you plan to take the Rave Model 1 on an adventure. If you want a portable speaker for activities like rock climbing, mountain biking/cycling, swimming, boating, etc, a MicroSD makes a lot of sense. In most of these instances, you probably won’t have a mobile phone close by because it’ll either get wet or damaged. Dump your favorite music, podcast or any audio onto a MicroSD (the Rave Model 1 only accepts MicroSD cards up to 32G maximum), insert the MicroSD into the Rave Model 1 and you’ll always have music. This also saves your phone’s battery life which, if you’re exploring the outdoors, could be a lifesaver.

Waterproof & Shockproof

The Rave Model 1 carries an IPX7 waterproof rating. This means you can immerse the speaker up to 1m (3.2ft) for 30 minutes underwater. The IPX7 rating will also protect against dust and other small debris. The Rave Model 1 is also shock resistant with a partial rubberized exterior to survive minor drops, bumps, and knocks.

Battery Life

The Sensport Rave Model 1 also comes with a built-in rechargeable battery. The Battery life varies depending on how loud you decide to run the Rave Model 1. At 100% volume, the battery will last 4 hours while at 60% volume you’ll get around 24 hours of playing time. The Rave Model 1 battery can fully recharge from flat within 4-5 hours. An LED on the side of the Rave Model One will flash red to indicate charging is required and remain solid red when fully charged.

Speakerphone

One of the best features of the Sensport Rave Model 1 is the built-in speakerphone for use when connected to a Bluetooth smartphone. The M button (M for mode) allows you to answer and reject incoming calls and a built-in microphone enables you to talk on the phone completely hands-free. This is especially useful if you’re in the pool and still want to answer an incoming call. No need to have to dry your hands, just answer the call on the speaker. It’s completely waterproof, so any water transferred from your hands won’t damage the speaker.

Control Panel

The Sensport Rave Model 1 features a simple five-button control panel, giving you ultimate control over the portable speaker and any paired Bluetooth device. There is a simple on/off button and a play/pause button – these are the only buttons which are not multipurpose. The play/pause will control both Bluetooth paired devices and MicroSD audio. In the center is an M (Mode) button which you can switch between inputs (Bluetooth, Aux, MicroSD) and answer/reject incoming calls. The + (plus) and – (minus) buttons enable you to control the volume and skip tracks. A short press and release will change tracks, while press and hold will adjust the volume control.

The Sound

The Sensport Rave Model 1 features 2 full-range 1.8” speaker drivers each producing 8W to deliver a total of 16W overall. While this isn’t enough to host a massive house party, it’s perfect for some background music while hanging out with friends.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a portable Bluetooth speaker with good waterproof and shockproof features then, the Sensport Rave Model 1 is an excellent choice! The Rave Model 1 has many of the features you’ll find on high-end portable speakers but at a fraction of the price. At under $40, the Rave Model 1 is both affordable and good value. The only real downside is that it only comes with a USB charging cable and no adapter for the wall socket. However, you can use the adapter from your mobile phone charger (which most people have these days), so it’s not a major sticking point.
