If you are looking for a soundbar but can’t find a model with any decent bottom end, then the Q Acoustics Media 4 (M4) is for you! The M4’s built-in subwoofer is certainly a step up from most soundbars on the market in the same price range. I don’t feel that it quite competes with a soundbar that has an external subwoofer but having said that, the Media 4 is definitely fuller than your average soundbar.
In fact, the Media 4 is so impressive it has received multiple awards including from popular publications like Stuff Magazine and AVTech Media. The Media 4 is incredibly easy to set up and, if you’re not tech-savvy, then you’ll love the excellent “plug-in-and-play” sound you get straight out of the box. No complicated sound modes! Everything about the Media 4 is simple yet impressive.

The Technical Stuff
The Q Acoustics Media 4 features a 4”, 50W subwoofer at the bottom facing down with 2 x 2.5”, 25W mid-high left and right on the front. The Q Media delivers a respectable 100W of power output, enough to fill most small to medium-sized living areas.
Inputs include Bluetooth, optical in, ⅛ inch AUX and RCA. Unfortunately, the M4 does not have any HDMI inputs. This would be my only negative point with the M4. While there is no HDMI input, Q Acoustics do supply you with all the necessary cables for the inputs they do have on the Media 4. A small but convenient bonus many brands leave out.
The great news for bass fanatics is the Media 4 offers a subwoofer out. The best advice would be to pair this with the compact, yet stylish Q Acoustics 3070 Active Subwoofer. The 3070 features a dual 6.5” subwoofer delivering 140W of power. If you already have a subwoofer, the output is an RCA cable so you shouldn’t have an issue pairing with any brand.
The Q Acoustics Media 4 (M4) can be mounted or placed on a TV stand. The trapezoidal shape leaves more than enough space between the wall and the input cables. This also leaves you enough space to easily get behind to plug and unplug if necessary.
There are two holes on the back for mounting which eliminates the need for a bracket. At 10.8lbs the Media 4 is slightly heavier than the average soundbar so make sure you use heavy-duty bolts and try to go as deep into the wall as possible. The Media 4 comes with detachable rubber feet so you can place the soundbar on a shelf or TV cabinet. Keep in mind the Media 4 is 3.5 inches high so if your TV sits on a cabinet and you plan to place the Media 4 in front, it may block a small bit of the bottom of the screen as well as your TV’s IR for the remote control.
The remote control is another big plus for those looking for something simple. Using the remote you can turn the Media 4 on/off, change input mode, increase/decrease volume, or mute. On top of the Media 4 is an LED that changes color depending on the input you have selected. Also on top of the Media 4, an on/off switch and volume control. On the rear of the soundbar is a Bluetooth pairing button to pair a Bluetooth device.
Pairing the Q Acoustics Media 4 (M4) is a simple procedure with the latest lossless Bluetooth atpX V4.0. Lossless is an uncompressed form of streaming, said to produce “CD quality” sound. This is good news for streaming anything to your Media 4 over Bluetooth as you will experience a full, rich sound, as good as using a cable. The Media 4 can also connect via NFC (Near Field Communication), a wireless technology for transferring information, in this case, audio.
If you connect the Media 4 to your TV via the optical input then there is no need to ever turn the soundbar on or off. Via the optical cable, the Media 4 can detect when the TV is turned on and it will power up and then switch off when you turn off the TV. This is another small but convenient feature to make your life that little bit easier.
