The Bottom Line

The Infinity Reference 612m marine speakers are a great pair that will last a lifetime on the water. They are capable of achieving high volume levels while maintaining tight sound quality, and while they are designed for use on a boat, can also be fitted to a motorcycle, vehicle with an open roof, or in any outdoor setting. For the price point, they are really the best you can get.

Whether you’re planning a relaxing day out on the water and reeling in some fish, hosting a yacht party, or just fancy the idea of blasting your favorite tunes across the open seas or lake, you’ll need a quality set of marine speakers to give you the volume, sound characteristics and weatherproof protection you need for a long-lasting and enjoyable time on the water.

Marine speakers are designed to be permanently installed on a vessel and can resist such a harsh environment where they are constantly exposed to harmful ultraviolet rays and water from all angles.

The Infinity Reference 612m is rated one of the best marine speakers on the market today, let’s take a look why:

Technical Specifications

  • Impedance: 4 Ohm
  • Driver Size: 6.5 inch 2-way
  • Frequency Response: 50Hz-20kHz

Fully Weatherproof and Built to Last

Infinity is a brand of speakers that is owned by Harman International- a well-respected manufacturer. The Infinity Reference 612m consists of a 6.5-inch 2-way coaxial speaker driver designed to be panel-mounted. (For more info on coaxial speakers and how they work, take a look at our car audio guide) The Infinity Reference 612m is easy to install, and all electro-mechanical components are provided. This allows for further tweaking of the space where the speaker is mounted to achieve specific sonic qualities (such as adding insulation to the cabinet to alter the bass response of the speaker)

As for protection from the elements, the Infinity reference 612m is rated as fully weatherproof. This means that common occurrences such as splashing water (even at high speeds and from various angles) and prolonged exposure to UV rays will not damage the speaker at all. Additionally, the speaker’s enclosure is rust-resistant, therefore extending its overall lifespan. The speaker’s grille is made from stainless steel and features a polypropylene cone, the front of the unit is also entirely sealed, providing further protection from elemental factors.

Overall, as far as durability and reliability of these speakers are concerned- I can confidently say these will last a long time in any environment, provided they are installed correctly. While a longer warranty plan would be nice to see, the 1-year scheme protects you from factory defects or any other abnormalities.

Easy and Quick Installation

Weighing only 5.6 pounds and measuring a reasonably compact 7.08 x 7.08 x 3.5 inches per speaker, the Infinity Reference 612m speakers can be maneuvered and installed fairly quickly and is easily a one-man-job. Just be sure to take into consideration the mounting dimensions to ensure your new speakers fit snugly into their dedicated spaces, and remember to account for the relevant depth of the panel (allow for a bit of breathing room behind the speaker if you can, this will help with the speaker’s overall sound projection abilities.

The depth of the Infinity Reference 612m speakers are 2 and 5/8 inches- while there are shallower options out there, these speakers should not cause any mounting issues.

Incredibly Loud For Its Size

The Infinity Reference 612m contains a 2-way, 6.5-inch driver and possesses great power-handling capabilities for a speaker of this size. These speakers can comfortably produce enough volume to make your music heard over the sounds of any roaring boat engine- plenty of volume for onboard or if you’ll be swimming away from your vessel or enjoying some watersport activities behind the engine.

Aside from the loudness abilities of these speakers, the 2-way coaxial configuration of the speakers makes for an accurate and powerful representation of both lower and higher frequency bands. While the midrange clarity is not the best, for use on a boat, particularly when in motion, the low-end energy is quite important and the Infinity Reference 612ms does a great job at handling these frequencies, which makes a substantial difference when speakers are used outdoors.

Just remember: Not everybody treats time on the water as a party, and some may find a disturbance in loud music, especially when trying to fish or relax on the boat. If you’re close to others, be sure to remain considerate where you can, as sound reflects easily off the surface of the water.

Lastly, to get the most out of the Infinity Reference 612ms I would recommend purchasing some quality cables as an upgrade can make a world of difference.

Infinity Reference 612m Conclusion

The Infinity Reference 612m marine speakers are a great pair that will last a lifetime on the water, providing countless hours of entertainment as you enjoy your favorite music in any setting you like. They are capable of achieving high volume levels while maintaining tight sound quality, and while they are designed for use on a boat, can also be fitted to a motorcycle, vehicle with an open roof, or in any outdoor setting.

For the price point, they are really the best you can get, and the 1-year warranty provides for protection from unlikely factory defects. The only issue I can find in these speakers is that they are only available in one color scheme, which may clash with the colors or style of your boat, however, they aren’t invasive or cheap-looking and certainly won’t stand out too much.
