Lately we have been spoiled for choice when it comes to portable, wireless Bluetooth speakers, but even in this crowded market the Earson Outdoor Sport speaker manages to impress. Although this is not the type of speaker that you are going to haul out to get a party started in your backyard, it is portable enough to carry around with you anywhere and stylish enough that you won’t be embarrassed to do so.
Apart from the funky design, the speaker also comes with a laundry list of features that covers just about everything that you would want and expect from an outdoor speaker. It is not just the design that impresses, but for such a small device the audio quality is also of a very high standard.
If I had to judge the Earson Outdoor Sport speaker purely by its size, I would have been concerned about the audio quality. Throw in the low price and you might just think that there is no way that it can deliver acceptable sound output. Crank up your favorite tune on this speaker and you might end up pleasantly surprised by what it can deliver, I know that it definitively caught me by surprise! The audio quality definitely does not disappoint unless you were somehow expecting this speaker to replace your bulky, mounted outdoor speakers.
The Earson Outdoor Sport speaker is not really meant to get a party started, but they are certainly more than capable of providing some background music. On your own, or with a small group of friends, this speaker will provide a much more pleasant audio experience than what a phone or tablet could ever offer. Volume is certainly not an issue and you might just have to turn it down a notch if you want to have a conversation while standing next to the speaker!
The bass quality is surprisingly good, considering the size of the speaker, and it is also able to deliver crisp and clear highs and midtones. Even at higher volumes the speaker sounds good, but obviously the quality begins to deteriorate as you start to reach the limits of the Bluetooth range. For activities such as camping, hiking and even a day at the beach the speaker is more than capable of filling the silence with some beautiful music.
Another area where the Earson Outdoor Sport speaker scores a lot of points, at least in my books, is the overall design. A lot of Bluetooth speakers look gimmicky or like toys in a bid to distinguish them from the competition, but this speaker looks stylish without being over engineered. The triangle shape is more of a practical choice to keep the speaker stable, but I have to admit it is rather pleasing on the eyes as well. At only 150 mm in length and 56 mm wide the speaker is a perfect fit for any backpack and light enough to carry around with you when on the go.
The inputs are on one end of the speaker, while the buttons are on the opposite end which gives the overall design a clean and clutter-free look. One side holds the on/off switch, micro USB port as well as 3.5 stereo audio jack while the other has three buttons. The song selection buttons double as volume buttons, depending on how long you press them down while the playback button also doubles as a pause button. The inputs and buttons are integrated well with the speaker and look great. The rest of the speaker is covered in a honeycomb grille and some funky green trims around the edges along with the Earson logo. As far as the overall design of the speaker is concerned, the Earson Outdoor Sport speaker is top notch.
Durability is of the utmost importance for a portable speaker as chances are you will be carrying it around a lot. The Earson Outdoor Sport speaker gives you total peace of mind in this department as it is not only waterproof, but also shockproof and dust-proof. This little beast just shrugs off minor bumps and scratches and handles dust like a champ making it ideal for the beach or camping. As it is waterproof, you can carry it around in the rain without fear of it shorting out or becoming damaged. The buttons are fully sealed and the inputs are protected by a sealing rubber interface to keep moisture out. You can easily use this speaker in the shower without it missing a beat although I’m not convinced that it would survive a trip into the ocean. For the price I really can’t fault the durability and this is one speaker that you won’t have to worry about replacing anytime soon. Just be very sure that the rubber flap that cover the ports are completely sealed before you go dancing in the rain with this speaker.
The Earson Outdoor Sport Speaker is completely wireless so tangled wires is obviously not a concern with this nifty little device. It is also rechargeable with a pretty decent battery life so it is truly portable. The main mode of connectivity is obviously Bluetooth, but if you prefer you can also use the auxiliary input jack to connect your iPod, iPhone, iPad, phone, MP3 player, notebook or similar devices. The most impressive features for the price however is the fact that the speaker is waterproof, shockproof and dust-proof.
